Formally known as the Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens, the zoo was opened in the year 1984 and is spread over a land area of 740 acres. Since the zoo has been built over a vast area, visitors are offered the chance to hire two-seater and four-seater bicycle carriages at the entrance to make the visit more relaxing.

The Miami Zoo is kept open all through the year. The visiting hours for the park hour are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The Aviary is kept open between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. the specialized Children's Zoo remains open between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
The entry for everyone above 13 years of age is rated at $15.95. Children between 3 years and 12 years get admission into the zoo for $11.95. Those younger than 3 years of age are admitted without charge.
