Be Sure to Visit Gold Coast Railroad Museum - Home to Trains of Historical Significance
A fine example of historical significance for both kinds of train lovers, young and not-so-young is the Gold Coast Railroad Museum in Miami. The history of this Museum dates back to 1857 when some Miamians really felt the need of preserving their cultural heritage and built this wonder.
It may amaze you that this museum houses an enormous collection of several historic train cars, and includes the likes of Ferdinand, Magellan that was original constructed for the 32nd President of the United States, and also one of the most prominent figures of world history, Franklin D Roosevelt.
It is one of the only railroad museums where you can actually enjoy a train ride on different types of coaches made available for the tourists. The museum also exhibits an expensive model train and a magnanimous toy train that finds its lost glory with the children.
Though it's not very wise to take a complete one-day tour just to visit the museum, you may well be delighted by the fact that there is another popular tourist spot located at a very close proximity to this museum - Miami Metrozoo. An ideal tour would be like visiting the zoo for a couple of hours and then making a brief visit to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum.
The museum opens its doors for the tourists at 10 in the morning and shuts down at 4pm. On weekends, however, the opening time if shifted to 11am, however, the closing time remains the same.
The admission criteria are not too rigid. Kids below two years of age are given free entry. It will be a great idea to visit the museum on the first Saturday of every month, since entry fee comes free for all. At other times, the entry fee charged for adults and children above 12 years is $6 and children between 3 to 12 years of age are charged at $4.
