Overtown Miami is located at a short distance in the northwest direction from Miami's downtown area. It has the beautiful Miami River on its south west edge and is adjacently placed to the neighborhoods of Allapattah, Wynwood, Spring Garden and Park West. Overtown Miami is a home to over more than 50,000 residents with over 70% belonging to African-American origin.

Overtown is one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Miami. The longtime residents choose to represent them with the phase "Towners or Towners for Life". The town is home to several landmarks of historic importance, churches, traditional shops and restaurants. Some of the popular churches are Greater Bethel AME, St Agnes Episcopal and many Baptist churches.

One of the major attractions at Overtown Miami is the Lyric Theatre. The facility was first opened to the public in the year 1913. Geder Walker was the first to own the theatre and the chief person to operate it. The theater also has intrinsic value for the black people. It is a symbol for black economic power and a place which is free of racial discrimination.
