
Train Traveler's Guide to Miami - Things to Know about Miami Central Station
Miami Central Station in the city of Miami is currently under construction and is adjacent to the Miami International Airport. Miami already has a heavy-rail transit system that was set up in 1989. This was a single line through the downtown Miami.
Two long-distance trains - the Silver Meteor and Silver Star - already passed through this station. This has currently been shifted to the Central station site. In addition to this, the city has a monorail that circles through the downtown region.
The upcoming station would include the Amtrak Rail Services, a metro bus terminal and the metro rail services and is scheduled to open in mid-2010. However, only the rail service including the Tri-Rail and the Amtrak will be open to public in 2011. At a later stage, the railway authorities plan to introduce high-speed rail service to the city through the central station.
The station will be connected to the city via Greyhound Bus Lines, taxis, rental car services and various route of Metro bus service. There's going be cross-platform interchange between the Tri-Rail and Amtrak. There will be a multistoried parking garage and provision for bicycle parking at a ground level.
Owing to the proximity of the Miami International Airport, the place was already very developed having a number of hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, stores, nightclubs and bars as well as several entertainment facilities. The civic authorities are currently emphasizing on more infrastructural development in the area. The completion of the railway station is set to take the region to greater heights in terms of development.
