Begun in the year 1963, the Bass Museum was set up when John and Johanna Bass donated their impressive art collection to the City of Miami Beach under the contract that it would be presented and exhibited for the public. Some of the finest pieces of art from around the world are showcased in the museum and lend a rich touch to the dynamic cultural atmosphere of the city.

The structure of the Miami Beach Public Library and Art Center was been used to build the present day Bass Museum of Art which was the first of its kind in the city. The Bass Museum of Art was incorporated into the National Register in the year 1978.
