Parrot Jungle Island

The Parrot Jungle Island has long been celebrated as one of the highlights of Miami travel. For animal and bird lovers, the Parrot Jungle Island was one of the best places to head to in order to be able to explore the beautiful species in this animal theme park and learn more about them.

The Parrot Jungle Island was known the world over for the numerous bird species, those of parrots in particular, which the theme park attracted. The Parrot Jungle Island was established by Franz and Louise Scherr in the year 1936. The establishment was built at the corner of the Southwest 111th Street and the Avenue Southwest 57th.

The Parrot Jungle Island has now been remodeled and replaced by its modern successor which is known as Jungle Island. Jungle Island has been built on the Watson Island. It was briefly recognized as the Parrot Jungle Island until the year 2007 when the name was once again changed to Jungle Island. The site of the original Parrot Jungle Island now serves as the Pinecrest Gardens.

Franz Scherr created the Parrot Jungle Island because of his undying love affair with nature and all her marvelous offerings. Wanting to be able to provide the glorious parrots with a place where they could "fly free" Franz Scherr went about the task of building the Parrot Jungle Island. As many as 1,100 tropical birds and more than 2000 species of wild flowers and plants are seen to prosper in Jungle Island as the vision of Franz Scherr continues to live on even after his passing and the Jungle Island remains a popular destination for travel in Miami Florida.
