
Visitor's Guide to Florida Memorial University: Campus and Student Activities
Located in the Miami Gardens - a popular suburb of Miami, Florida - the Florida Memorial University is one of the oldest seats for learning and education in Florida. This private coeducational university was set up in the late nineteenth century.
The university has a rich history of being supported and run by black Baptists and is one of the several colleges in the US to have graduated Afro-American candidates. In fact, it was established as a Baptist college in the beginning and then opened up to students of diverse culture and background.
The university offers a wide selection of interesting subjects to students in the fields of education, applied sciences, liberal arts and sciences, management, theology, social sciences, music, media and many others.
The main university building is located on an excellent campus that is built over 44-acres of land. The campus is vibrant with a whole lot of cultural events that are organized at the main university auditorium. The main building which is also the administrative center is well architected. The university provides campus housing facilities to about 750 students out of its total number of 1,700 full-time students.
Students are engaged in a number of activities in the Florida Memorial University, besides pursuing their academic career. It hosts several sporting events such as athletics, basketball, baseball and high jumps, with students participating in various inter-state competitions and championship. The most notable one that takes place every year is the Florida Sun Conference for athletics. Students also organize a number of exhibitions, music and dance conferences and cultural and social programs at the campus premises.
